Although shopping has been long acknowledged as a major tourist activity, the extent and characteristics of shopping tourism have only recently become the subject of academic research and discussion. As a contribution to this field of knowledge, the paper presents the characteristics of shopping
tourism in Hungary, and discusses the typically female features of outbound Hungarian shopping tourism. The research is based on a survey of 2473 Hungarian tourists carried out in 2005. As the findings of the study indicate, while female respondents were altogether more likely to be involved in tourist shopping than male travellers, no significant difference was experienced between the genders concerning the share of shopping expenses compared to their total travel budget. In their shopping behaviour, women were typically affected by price levels, and they proved to be both more selfish and more altruistic than men by purchasing more products for themselves and for their family members.
The most significant differences between men and women were found in their product preferences as female tourists were more likely to purchase typically feminine goods such as clothes, shoes, bags and accessories, in the timing of shopping activities while abroad, and in the information sources
used by tourists, since interpersonal influences such as friends’, guides’ and fellow travellers’ recommendations played a higher role in female travellers’ decisions.

The range of components involved in the construction of tourist expectations and the influence these expectations
generate on consumer satisfaction have been analyzed by tourism and marketing researchers. However,
the causes and consequences of negative emotions such as disappointment seem to be neglected. Tourists'
high expectations should be met not only by the services sector, but also by the tourismdestination itself. Service
insufficiency, or the failure of the travel experience, alongwith other risk factors may lead to tourists' dissatisfaction.
This paper aims to create a better understanding of negative emotional attributes related to tourism
destinations by investigating the causes, factors, and consequences of tourists' disappointment by developing a
model of the phenomenon. This paper offers practical implications for destination managers and discusses
how the causes of disappointment might be eliminated, or minimized, and that tourists can be compensated
for disappointing experiences.

Labour mobility in the hospitality industry involves a wide range of affective processes. Emotional responses in challenging situations for migrant hospitality workers significantly affect their social interactions and working efficiency. This paper explores the impact of emotions upon hospitality employees' evaluation of their experiences whilst working in the UK. The empirical research focussed on hospitality employees' emotions and perceptions about the host country in the different phases of migration. Further, migrants’ adjustment capacities and emotional responses in challenging situations were analysed. In 2011, 78 semi-structured interviews were conducted with Hungarians who had post-accession working experience in the hospitality industry in London (UK). Results suggest that migrant hospitality employees' emotional responses related to the mismatch between anticipated and lived experiences have a key role in social interactions and on their working efficiency. The practical implications of this study are for recruiting agencies and hospitality industry employers on how to alleviate migrant workers' emotional difficulties and how to enhance their working efficiency.

A szubjektív életmin őséggel kapcsolatban felmerülő  kérdések tisztázása napjainkra már nem csak a tudományos műhelyek közötti párbeszédben, hanem a társadalom közérzetéért felel ős politikai berkekben is prioritást élvező  témának számít. A kutatók, legyenek azok a filozófia, a pszichológia, a szociológia, a geográfia vagy éppen a közgazdaságtudomány képviselői, leginkább a boldogság forrását, a szubjektív jólét eléréséhez vezető  utat, a politikusok pedig annak a hatalom általi befolyásolhatóságának mikéntjét kívánják feltárni, illetve feltáratni. A Nemzeti turizmusfejlesztési stratégia (2005-2013) — nemzetközi összehasonlításban is egyedülálló módon — rendkívüli fontosságot tulajdonít a magyar lakosság utazásainak életminőség-növelő  szerepére. Ahhoz, hogy a dokumentumban megfogalmazottak valóban a társadalom javára válhassanak, az önkormányzati és Területfejlesztési Minisztérium Turisztikai Szakállamtitkársága a Magyar Turizmus Zrt.-vel és az MTA Földrajztudományi Kutatóintézettel együttműködve felkérte a Központi Statisztikai Hivatalt a lakosság utazási magatartásával összefüggő  boldogságfaktor feltárására. A 2007ben, mintegy 11,5 ezer háztartásban folytatott kérdőíves felmérés eredménye felszínre hozta a turizmus és az életminőség kapcsolatának eddig alig ismert vetületeit. A tanulmány az életmin őséggel kapcsolatos hazai és nemzetközi szakirodalom kontextusába helyezve tárgyalja a felnőtt magyar lakosságra reprezentatív vizsgálat eredményeit, értékeli az egyes változók mentén létrehozott adattáblákat. A szerzők különös hangsúlyt helyeznek az utazás és az élettel való elégedettség közötti általános kapcsolatok bemutatására, valamint az utazásokban rejlő  boldogság összetevőinek feltárására.

As one of the transit countries in Europe,
Hungary plays a significant role both in the eastwest
and north-south passenger traffic of the
continent. Approximately one-third of foreigners
(14 million) arriving yearly in Hungary travel
through the country. A turnover like this can
generate changes at the micro level in the everyday
life of affected settlements and have social,
economic, and physical impacts. In order to
examine this, it is important to identify
settlements involved in transit. The study
introduces methodological approaches that can
be applied to outline the crystallising points of
transit tourism in Hungary. With the help of GISbased
delineation and the logit model the
settlements involved in transit have been
identified. The study concluded that settlements
involved in transit traffic (1) are located at the
intersections of roads enabling the shortest travel
time between different border sections, (2)
possess a motorway junction, and (3) are situated
at the intersection of two main roads. Finally, it is
shown that transit impacts the local economy of
these settlements.

The Corvin passage is one of the most important symbolic spaces of 1956 revolution in Hungary. The majority of armed conflicts took place in Budapest, where the largest resistance group had to battle against Soviet tanks in the neighbourhood of the Corvin Passage. This study aims to highlight the fact that, even though a general shift has taken place from the pre‐1990 policy to 'forget' to today's established remembrance practices, the Corvin Passage still does not have a prominent position as a major historic site. Our research is based on a study of relevant national and international literature, on an analysis of documents relating to tourism site management, on historical sources related to the Corvin Passage, and on a content analysis of guide‐ books and websites. ____________________________________________________________________

This study introduces the behaviour of participants in transit tourism in Hungary with a focus on their expenditure. With the help of multivariable mathematical-statistical methods, the motivational background and the spending characteristics of foreigners visiting Hungary between 2009 and 2013 are explored; in addition, the factors influencing expenditure, according to nationality, are investigated.
According to our investigations, people in transit, whose spending is continuously increasing, make up a significant share of the expenditure of foreigners arriving in Hungary. Typical types of spending during transit are fuel purchases and dining at restaurants. Among transit visitors to Hungary, Romanian, Serbian (including Monte-negro and Kosovo), and Bulgarian nationals have the highest share. While the number and expenditure of transit visitors slightly increased during the examined period, the per capita spending decreased. The results of the study show that this is due to the changes in the composition of the countries involved.
Changes in transit tourism expenditures are largely determined by nationality. The most important conclusion of our research is that the most significant characteristics of transit depend on general European trends (labour market conditions, tourism supply, etc.) and conditions (visa requirements, transport infrastructure, accommo-dation along transit routes, among others) provided for transit visitors by Hungary.

Az 1957. január 7-én megjelent Time Magazin címlapján az 1956-os év emberének választott „magyar szabadságharcos” nézett szembe az olvasókkal. A szovjet katonák által néhány hét alatt vérbe fojtott 1956-os forradalom és szabadságharc első számú színtere Budapest volt. A legnagyobb létszámú és legjobban szervezett ellenálló csoport a magyar főváros népszerű mozijának közvetlen szomszédságában, a Corvin közben vette fel a küzdelmet az orosz tankokkal. A hatalmas túlerő hamar felőrölte az elszánt forradalmárokat. A harcok túlélőinek többsége emigrált vagy a megtorlások áldozatává vált, a Corvin köz több évtizedes hallgatásba merült.   
A Corvin köz egyike a 20. század háborús színtereinek (Winter 2009), az 1956-os események óta formálódó nemzeti emlékezet sajátos megtestesülése. A pár háztömbnyi nagyvárosi csatatér a magyar kormány által 2011-ben történelmi emlékhelynek nyilvánított, a szovjet mintájú diktatúra elleni szembenállást megtestesítő szimbolikus helyszín . Ugyanakkor a Corvin köz ma Budapest egyik szabadidős, kiskereskedelmi és közlekedési csomópontja, központi épülete az 1922 óta működő mozi, amelyet kisebb-nagyobb üzletek, kávézók, bárok, valamint egy modern bevásárlóközpont ölel néhány méterre a magyar főváros metró- és villamoshálózatának fő vonalaitól.
A Corvin közzel kapcsoltban kétfajta dichotómia is azonosítható. Az egyik az 1989-ig hatalmon lévő pártállam vezetőinek felejtéspolitikája, és az 1990 után többször is (1990–1994, 1998–2002, 2010–) kormányzati pozícióban lévő nemzeti-konzervatív irányzat emlékezetpolitikája közötti antagonisztikus különbségekből fakad, a másik a rendszerváltozás utáni politikai erők egymással is versengő, gyakran ellentmondásos emlékezetpolitikájára vezethető vissza. A forradalom és szabadságharc emlékét őrző szervezetek között megosztottság van, amelynek egyik következménye a Corvin közben elhelyezett emléktáblák sokasága. Mivel a hely nincs tervszerűen menedzselve, ezért az emlékezés szinte kizárólag a forradalom időszakát felidéző hivatalos ünnepségekre koncentrálódik, az év többi napján a hétköznapi használat kerül előtérbe. Ebből következően az ünnepi időszakot jellemző pátosz és az azon kívül eső térhasználatot jellemző mindennapiság évről évre ciklikusan váltakozik (1. fénykép). A rendszerváltozást (1990) követő évtizedekben a Corvin közt nem sikerült Budapest turisztikai attrakciójává fejleszteni. Mivel a Corvin köz Budapest egyetlen marketingkommunikációs felületén sem jelenik meg, a turisták véletlenszerűen, igen alacsony számban keresik fel a történelmi emlékhelyet.
A tanulmány arra kíván rámutatni, hogy az 1990-ig uralkodó felejtéspolitikából a napjainkig meghatározó emlékezetpolitikába történő átlépést követően sem vált a Corvin köz a társadalmi gyakorlatokba beágyazott, élő emlékezeti hellyé. A kutatás módszertani apparátusát a vonatkozó kulturális antropológiai, földrajzi és turisztikai szakirodalom feldolgozása, a Corvin közzel kapcsolatos történelmi dokumentumok elemzése, úti könyvek, honlapok tartalomelemzése képezi.
